PTL equipment list

I thought it might be of interest to give away the list of equipment we used during the PTL. As mentioned earlier, I would add a bottle and a poncho.

Don't you think that wearing just a piece of string is not enough when the weather is chilly ?
:)
What is vaseline used for?
Do you know a good way to prevent blisters? Compeeds are used only once you have some blisters, aren't they? Do you know about special socks...?
Vaseline: against chaffing, although Nok cream by Akileine is often preferred by ultrarunners.
Blisters: train a lot to get your feet used to it, use socks with teflon, Sven put some Compeeds preventively too. Then there are a lot of alternative to prepare the feet, based on lemon juice and stuff like that.
OK, thanks.
I was surprised of the number of times my adoptive teammates put some NOK on their feet! Full massage three times a day at least...have not felt the need for it...
About the socks, I think that the Quechua trail socks are very good and resistant (definitely better than the RUN800 from Kalenji)
Inov8 shoes are pretty good, but they have to sort out they problem with the side of the shoe hitting the bone + quick wear on tarmac.
Hi
I am entered for the Ptl this year.i think i have the same gps as you listed for the Ptl.
Did you manage to get the maps for it?
I love your account of the event.
Thanks
Regards
Ges Smith
Hi ges,
Unfortunately, we didn't have the maps on the GPS because:
1. they are very expensive in France
2. they seem(ed) to be non-existent in Italy
With the track loaded and looking at the paper maps at the same time, it was actually OK.
See you there in August!
